In 1992, Franky Carrillo, Jr. was wrongfully convicted of murder and six counts of attempted murder for a drive-by shooting. He was misidentified as the gunman by one of the teen witnesses who told the other five who to choose in the lineup, because an officer had told him that Franky was the main suspect. No physical evidence linked Franky to the crime. However, all the eyewitnesses identified Carrillo as the shooter and testified to the identification at the first trial, which ended in a hung jury and then a second trial that eventually convicted him. His conviction was finally overturned in 2011 after all eyewitnesses admitted that they did not see anything and had been influenced to identify Carrillo by the police.
